
In the left hand column under Cite while you Write, choose Download Windows.Making sure you are logged into the EndNote Web site in a Web browser, click the Downloads tab at the top of the page.If your computer meets the system requirements, you may install the Cite While You Write feature by following these instructions for Windows users: Install MyEndnoteWeb Cite While You Write Plug-In for Windows It may also cause conflicts with other programs on your computer. If your computer does not meet these requirements, the Cite While You Write feature will not function. Before installing, check the program's system requirements here. The Cite While You Write feature in Endnote Web requires that users install a plug-in for Word. To see what this looks like in action, check out these videos from other academic Libraries: This feature is only compatible with Microsoft Word if you are using another program to write your thesis or dissertation, you will need to put citations in by hand, and export your citations from EndnoteWeb to a bibliography. To share a document with EndNote generated citations it is advisable to generate a PDF copy from it (from File > Save As), or follow the instructions on the following page.Cite While You Write allows users to insert footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographic references into their papers as they write. It will be important to point this out to any editors/reviewers. These changes would disappear at the latest when the document is emailed (or deposited) and opened by someone with EndNote installed on their computer. Note though that changes should not be made inside EndNote fields (in citations and in the bibliography). The recipient is able to work with the Word document as required (for example make changes, track changes). An EndNote library will be generated with records containing only the information that was inserted into the Word document.

In Word, on the EndNote ribbon, select the Tools group, Export to EndNote and then Export travelling library (on a Mac computer select Export Traveling Library. from the CWYW drop-down on the floating EndNote toolbar in Word for Mac). If needed, the recipient can even export the travelling library, as follows.

A ‘travelling library’ remains embedded in the Word file.


What happens when an EndNote library has been used to generate citations and bibliographies in these Word documents? As your writing progresses you will need to email passages (with EndNote generated citaitons and bibliographies) to others (for example your supervisor).
